Finding cute, CHEAP accessories always puts me in a good mood. Like these leopard print shell earrings from H&M (a mere four buckaroos!) — finding them made me feel kinda like this…

What’s your earliest makeup memory?

My very first makeup memory stars my mom, who, truth be told, has never really been a makeup kinda gal. She’s always had a few beauty bits and pieces sitting around, things she picked up at the occasional Mary Kay party, but makeup’s not really her thing.

I remember one time she brought a purple eyeshadow duo home from one of those parties. I was seven at the time, and she left it in the bathroom where it tempted me for DAYS.

I’d pad into the bathroom at 6:30 every morning and stare at it with sleepy eyes, fighting the urge to open the compact and stick my fingers into the pan.

I made it about a week before I just couldn’t take it anymore.

One morning I wandered in, grabbed the compact and stuffed it into the pocket of my pajamas, figuring I could take it to school with me and work some magic in the girl’s bathroom before class.

But I didn’t make it that far. On my way back to my room with the forbidden eyeshadow, I bumped into my mom, who coincidentally happened to be standing in front of an oversized picture of Jesus in the hallway. That’s when I dropped the eyeshadow and burst into tears.

My mom reached down, picked it up — thankfully it didn’t break — and then soothed me until I calmed down. src='http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />

What happened to the purple shadow after that remains a mystery… I have no other memories of it. Maybe it’s still somewhere in my mom’s small makeup collection, lost for all eternity.

I wonder which movie’s gonna win the Academy Award for href="http://oscar.go.com/nominations/nominees#category_makeup">Best Makeup this year. Hmm… Seeing as Star Trek’s the only one of the three I’ve seen, I guess it gets my vote. src='http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif' alt=':)' class='wp-smiley' />

Do you go buck wild for awards shows? I do for the Oscars, and this year I was shocked to see a familiar face from Twilight among the list of nominees for Best Supporting Actress, the adorable Anna Kendrick, for Up in the Air (I STILL haven’t seen it but really want to).

The 24-year old stars opposite George Clooney in the film. I’ve been a fan of hers since 2007’s Rocket Science. Remember her in that? And homegirl’s been singing and acting in Broadway musicals since the age of 12, so she’s already got quite a resume, Oscar nod notwithstanding.

Anna’s going up against a few of my favorite actresses, though, namely href="http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/just-for-fun/penelope-cruz-her-best-hair/">Penelope Cruz and href="http://www.makeupandbeautyblog.com/just-for-fun/maggie-gyllenhaal-hairstyle-celebrity-poll/">Maggie Gyllenhaal… I have no idea who’ll win, but I have a soft spot in my heart for young upstarts. Chloe describes the scent as a floral with notes of rose, orange zest, freesia, watermelon, sandalwood and iris.

I was just walking along the sidewalk today, minding my business, when a Sephora store reached out and grabbed me by the eyeballs!

As soon as I saw the rows of pink compacts and faux diamonds (and wiped up the bit of drool on my chin), I knew what I needed to do!

A few observations and items of note about the collection…

• Since Tarina’s jewelry’s so colorful and quirky, I was expecting crazy makeup colors too. Well, it has some of that, but there’s also a solid core of really wearable neutrals, and even the edgier purples and pinks are still tastefully done.
• The playful yet wearable vibe reminds me of Anna Sui and Paul & Joe.
• Big ups for the href="http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml;jsessionid=3DBE5M32BG0FYCV0KQRQX0Q?id=P254904&categoryId=C22000">Eye Dream Hypershadows ($19), href="http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P254909&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=5970">Dollskin Cheek blush ($25) and href="http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P254901&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=5970">Dollskin Powder ($32); all of the powder products feel finely milled, soft and apply with concentrated pigmentation. It almost felt like I was playing with Dior!
• href="http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P254902&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=5970">The Eye Dream Hyperliners ($17) are creamy smooth ala Urban Decay’s Glide-On Eye Pencils, but instead of setting after a minute like UD’s, they stay creamy and moveable.
• If you’re a fan of Stila’s Smudge Pots, you might like the href="http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P254905&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=5970">Magic Hour Cream Shadows ($19). I think they have a similar texture and color payoff.
• I can see Tarina’s not a big fan of matte lipsticks as all of her href="http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P254907&categoryId=RPYMAL&shouldPaginate=true">Conditioning Lipsheens ($22) have either a creamy or a shimmery finish.
• Hold on to your sensitive noses because the href="http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P254908&categoryId=RPYMAL&shouldPaginate=true">Gem Glosses ($19) have a strong fruit punch scent that … made my stomach churn (I have a VERY sensitive nose, though).

For the most part, I think being a woman ROCKS, but the occasional mood swings = not my favorite part of being a girl.

Today I was fine until five, at which time a bit of crankiness crept in (caused by a combination of the weather and my efforts to avoid refined sugar). I started with these NARS blushes, which I’ve had since Christmas but never really played with until now.
